There are many places I have visited. They amazed me yet I believe vacations should be relaxing at the same time reflective. Browsing the net, I found the oldest city in the New World, located in the Dominican Republic—the Santo Domingo (Hastings, n.d.). For me, the best place on earth for vacation is where you can relax and reflect on its past that will remind you of humble beginnings.
Santo Domingo is the place where the modern life meets the old by the preserved ruins, structures, and monuments lying in its stretches. It has a friendly climate of gentle tropical breeze which blows in the atmosphere. Its main attraction is the Don Diego Columbus Viceroyship Palace. As pristine as the White House, this palace has preserved its beauty. At the heart of Santo Domingo is the tiled open square Plaza España where welcoming folks flash their smiles to tourists. A visit to the large bronze statue of Nicolas de Ovando tells you a story about saving a city that once engulfed by a hurricane. A glimpse inside the Centro de Arte y Cultura Popular is like looking through the kaleidoscope of Taino Indian lifestyle. Contesting the Roman Forum in Rome is the Ruinas de San Francisco, impressive ruins of Franciscan monastery. Walking inside its halls of orange stone stirs your pious side.
