Stoicism was a primary philosophy and a way of lifestyle pronounced among the ancient cultures such as the Greeks and Romans. They adopted the stoic way of life. Stoics alleged that human beings should restrain their moral emotions to achieve happiness and wisdom. This philosophy was geared toward helping those individuals faced with grief, death, and suffering. Stoics believed that the world is what we make it (Bowman 1-5). They advocated for the fact that unhappiness results from the people’s decision to comply to the worlds options rather than applying their cognitive abilities to construct a better world for them. Nature provides us with every thin to attain happiness, and we have our power will attain this (Bowman 1-5).
According to the stoicism for one to achieve happiness the following precepts must be considered. These entails the harmony existing between the will and nature, self-sufficiency, destiny, equanimity, duty, virtue, intention, and nature law.
Stoics such as those from the Middle Stoa believed that virtue is the impetuous factor towards happiness. They believed that happiness results from virtue and knowledge. As depicted by Cicero, the only sufficient attainment of the happy life is the virtue.
