The Great Reversal
The great reversal is a theme which has been commonly used in the Gospel of Luke. The great reversal basically means “the world upside down” (McKnight n.pag). In Luke 19-24, the theme of great reversal emerges when Jesus accepts an invitation from a well-known tax collector called Zacchaeus. According to Luke 19, Zacchaeus was a rich tax collector who gained his wealth ungodly. He invites Jesus into his home with the aim of being forgiven for his sins. He promises to offer half of his possession to the poor as well paying four times to the people he had wronged. This illustrated not only the great reversal but also a good discipleship (The Holy Bible King James Version, Luke 19-24).
I too had a past personal experience of the great reversal. Two years ago, I had saved a lot of money from various deals. However, the money I had accumulated was genuine, and I had not cheated nor was it from gambling. One day, as I was passing through the streets, I came across some homeless street children who asked me for money. I was emotionally touched, and I decided to withdraw half of my savings and spend it on the orphaned children. The next day, I visited a children’s home. I bought them clothes, shoes, and a shopping that could last them a few days.
