As part of the academic requirement, nursing students are supposed to undergo a practicum experience. The experience is to help the students translate the knowledge they get from class to a real-world clinical setting. As such, to meet the requirements, I got attached to a particular clinic where I worked in the dermatology department. This paper, therefore, seeks to discuss the experience I had in dealing with a patient diagnosed with a dermatological disorder.
During my practicum experience, I interacted with several patients with the dermatological disorder. However, of the many patients, I got a chance to deal with one baby who was suffering from diaper rash. Diaper rash is a skin disease that appears in the form of the inflamed skin particularly on the bottom of the baby (Mayo, 2018). Initially, I had difficulty establishing the kind of the illness the kid was suffering from, however, from the symptoms and the research I did, I was able to determine that the baby was suffering from diaper rash. The most common type of symptom associated with this ailment and which my patient exhibited is shiny patches on the skin. These patches are what differentiates diaper rash of other kinds of rashes (McInerny et al., 2016). Another common symptom of this condition is skin redness which fortunately my patient did not exhibit.
