Before venturing on the essay with regards to happiness and the scientific audio system, the term happiness needs to be defined first. Happiness is appositive emotion (Slodoba 398). It is a sense of well-being, balancing the core, inner and outer aspects, and your very sense of essence of being or state of existence. It could be short term or long term. The feelings or sensations can be pleasure of the indulgent kind, or higher ones like joy, delight, ecstasy, enthusiasm and even a serene sense of fulfillment and contentment. It is the last which is probably the true worth or sense or value of the term itself. It can be derived in many ways. Being busy, working or creative, interactive, or within oneself, in commune with nature, lazing, doing nothing, but having a productive direction, are some of the ways of being happy.
CREATIVITY AND HAPPINESS
Human’s specialty is being creative by self and gaining satisfaction from there. It could be from a mechanical service, innovation of anything mechanical, appreciation and creation of fine arts, like music, painting, literature, conversation, teaching, philosophy, spiritual practices and even domestic jobs like cooking and washing, which also has their outlets in the established business world like the hospitality industry and laundry service like so many other service and manufacturing sectors.
MUSIC CREATIVITY AND HAPPINESS
Music is a creative art form, which has given pleasure to mankind down the ages, history and prehistory, civilized and uncivilized. Music is contained in the essence of silence, but broken down in its sound components. It has its resonance and rhythm. Nature’s sounds, understanding it through its collective composite range formed the true and also early musical comprehension stages. Then man discovered the science of music and modified on nature itself. First the seven notes were formed. From there onwards there was folk music consisting of the mundane to spiritual, devotional songs, classical, semi-classical, light entertainment and soothing music, and the recent developments of hard and soft rock, jazz, psychedelic and so on. The entire music range with other arts like film and drama has also produced a set of unique patterns. This is an art form which has said to produce a sublime state of bliss and happiness, depending on the level and type based on the hearer’s and performer’s taste.
MUSIC AND TECHNOLOGY
Going back in history, the music technology was very simple. There were no high quality instruments based on science and technology, no developed acoustics, but the strengths of the creator/composer, performer (singer-vocal/instrumental), and the musical instruments themselves. Thus there were open air gatherings, or a select few in royal courts, comprising the performers and the audience. The musical instruments themselves were very simple like the wind tools like flutes made of bamboo and wood, bagpipes, or string instruments like the harp, sitar, sarod, viola, violin, reed like instruments such as harmonium or harmonica, drums like tabla, and playing on any medium somewhat solid, with beat and resonance having an open end system of music improvisation.
HIGH –END AUDIO
Music in the present century, or beginnings with modern age have undergone a lot of changes. Many early musical instruments were made from animal skins, bone, wood, and other non-durable materials. During the metal ages, the various metals like lead, tin, copper, bronze and brass were used. Antiquity to middle ages showed a variety of musical instruments developing, but not any great changes in the technology itself. Rather the vocal and playing styles were focused upon for mastery. The modern age, particularly in the 20th-21st centuries showed a marked improvement in the musical technology. Acoustics themselves were hugely advanced, in the form of amphitheatres, stages, music halls, opera houses, galleries, although these had their presence since Graeco-Roman times. Microphones were used during musical shows. But it is the musical instruments themselves, which showed a dynamic change, by the use of electricity, being known as the electrophones. During the 1950s, was the production of electromechanical instruments, where mechanical parts make resonant waves as well as these are magnified by parts worked by electricity. One common example is the electric guitar. There is a sub set of tools on radioactivity too. During 50s and later there came the famous integrative tools, that manually create sound by electronic means. Computer sector growth has brought in a whole lot of electronic tools in the musical sector.
Music technology is any technology, such as computer hardware or software, or electronic devices which enable a musician to build up music, such as recording, composition, storage, mixing, analysis, editing and performance. One such is the high-end audio system. It is a home equipment for audiophiles and is very expensive. The human sense of hearing is very hard to define, hence whether this equipment is high end or high fidelity, is still a mystery, although measurements systems are there to gauge its performance. High end is that borderline where price and performance can be found to affect the quality of music and sound. Valves and speaker wires are some means to test its competence. Temporal smearing of signals in cables and components can affect sound quality.
Music is dependent on the mental state, and accordingly happiness is achieved. Simple music can give sublime pleasure, while high technology may create a lot of blockages, in the hearer and performer, since artificiality is involved. Again the same technology if attuned to the human mind, which psychoacoustics study try to do, can achieve wonders in this area.
Thus happiness and high end audio music is possible, but its perfect state is never achieved, since that is subjective, changeable and always open to more and more improvements.
