In most ectothermic animals, the temperature is the most important determinant of metabolic rate. This is due to the fact that temperature control most physiological and biochemical processes in the bodies of all ectothermic animals (Takeda and Okazaki 34). Metabolic rate is a core concept when determining the energy consumption rate of organisms, and this can contribute to understanding how they use their energy. In this experiment, the main objective was to determine how metabolism is affected by an increase in temperature.
Methods
The aim of the experiment was to measure the rate of metabolism for a period of one hour on varying temperature. Therefore, five crickets were put under varying temperature, and their metabolic rate was measured every single hour. The attained results are well recorded and analyzed on the attached excel sheet.
Results
The result of the experiment indicates that an increase in metabolic rate comes with an increase in temperature. As much as all the crickets had different results, they increased their metabolic rate when the temperature was increased.
Discussion and Conclusion
The increase in the metabolic rate in respect to the increase in temperature was not linear. The graphs indicate that there is an exponential increase in the trend line. The metabolic rate increases slightly from 5 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius. However, there is a rapid increase from 25 degrees Celsius to 30 degre…
