Who is to Blame for Genocides?
The world has had a history of genocides such as the Holocaust committed by Nazi Germans during WWII, Armenian genocide between 1915 and 1917, and 1994 genocide in Rwanda. The impression of the public has been that police fight during such happenings against civilians. However, the political leaders are to blame for events when they happen in any country. Genocides result from extremism that stems from religious, political, racial, and ethnic incitement among other related causes (Barnett 97). Viewing genocides from this perspective makes it easy to shift blame from the police to the politics of the nation. In this case, the cops only serve as tools through which the leaders express their hatred for one group, usually the minority (Barnett 103). The soldiers have a duty of maintaining law and order, but they have been trained to pick orders from their employers, their political leaders. The politicians who incite the public do so to serve their interests and put the police on the line because they always want to protect their image as responsible leaders.
After a period marked by war in any country, stability is more important than justice is. In any case, attempts to heal the nation of the wounds caused by war are supposed to reconcile the groups that conflicted.
