Events And Causes Of The First World War
The First World War began in the year 1914 and ended in the year 1918. It involved great economic powers that were made up of the Allies and the central powers of Germany (Allan, 2003). The war lead to the death of many people approximated to 7 million civilians and 9 million military personnel causing great economic losses to the participating nations. The Allies nations included the United Kingdom, France, and Russia whereas the central forces comprised of Germany, Austria-Hungary and later Italy. The immediate cause of the First World War was the assassination of Francis Ferdinand and his wife at Sarajevo by Serbian Black Hand. The other causes of the Global War are highlighted below
Militarism entailed expansion in naval forces, forceful policies by the military on the national government with the intention to solve problems. The increase naval and military difference increased the chances of the war. For instance, Germany believed in enhancing their armament to become the world super power nation. The British and the French Navy arranged for the future war by using the French navy to take cover in the Mediterranean as British took cover in the North Sea (Allan, 2003). The German and Russian military imposed rules in the government outdoing the views of the politicians. Great Britain was against the approaches employed by Germany and Russia to mobilize people into war thus increasing the possibility of the war. The majority of the powerful nations especially France and Germany developed a conscription system from the year 1870 (Allan, 2003). Germany expanded her military forces by 170000 men while France and Russia increased the serving terms of the military for defense purpose. The increased tension among the powers let to First World War.
Nationalism entails patriotism and remaining loyal to one’s country. The approach was used by most of the European nations in the 20th century to achieve interest of an individual country at the cost of the other nations. Most politicians and Riyals ignored the idea of advocating against nationalism and this lead to the start of the First World War. Russia believed that their nation was under God’s control of the 1.5 million military men (Allan, 2003). French, on the other hand, believed that her wall could protect them from the enemies from the eastern border, especially from the Germans. Germany had faith in the Prussian military and their industrial base in the process of expansion. The self-interest between nations caused the outbreak of World War I.
The First Moroccan Crisis
The Tangier Crisis that took place in Morocco between March 1905 and May 1906 is one of the reasons for the First World War. The fight increased the dispute between Germany and France as well as Britain. Kaiser William II from Germany visited Morocco declaring his support for the local Sultan leadership. The actions of Kaiser did not echo well with the French since it reduced their powers. After Germany calling for a conference to punish France, Theophile Delcasse, who was the Minister for Foreign Affairs defiled the order to appear before the conference (Allan, 2003). Bernhard Bulow, the then Chancellor of German, threaten France over defiling the order. Maurice Rouvier remained firm on his decision to ignore the order to account for their actions before the conference causing a crisis between France and Germany. The difference continued for years contributing to the outbreak of the World War I.
Bosnian crisis
The rebellion experienced against Ottoman leadership in Balkans in 1870 by the Turks also forms the basis of the First World War. Alexander II of Russia called for peace by Ottoman hence making them to appeal to the annexation of Austria-Hungary (Allan, 2003). Russia declared war on Turks is forcing them out of Europe. The actions of Russia caused a conflict of interest among European nations especially Britain and Austria-Hungary, who advocated for the implementation of the London Straight Convention. The Bosnian crisis led to much difference among European nations thus causing the outbreak of the First World War. In precise, the first war was caused by many political, economic and social factors among the Great Powers of Europe.
