A letter from Clyde to Bonnie
I hope you get this before it’s too late,
My Bonnie should know; no more can I wait,
Before like a cartridge, I’m badly spent,
The egg is broken, time for the omelette.
I have been meaning to write to you, baby,
My love for you Bonnie; is sick and ailing,
For I need your tender shackles to jail me,
‘Cause lately my pistol has been querying,
The screaming and wailing we often caused,
Clyde knows that they think our cause is lost,
For all it’s worth, I know we merely paused;
And the havoc is what I miss the most.
It has been a while; I miss the sheriff,
I miss the good old days of wanton mischief.
Explanatory paragraph
Bonnie and Clyde were infamous from their western-style criminal dispositions and carefree attitude. They are regarded as one of the most popular romantically involved crime duos. Their numerous escapades have assumed an almost legendary poise, and this informed my decision to write on them. In writing this sonnet, the setting was a jail scenario, perhaps circa 1932 when Bonnie Parker was in jail for a botched robbery, one of their initial escapades. The writing was made easier mental visualizations of the happenings at the time and knowledge of possible characters of both Bonnie and Clyde.
