At the beginning of the article, Margaret Atwood ironically agrees with her critics that she is a bad feminist who has catapulted herself into fame on the backs men. She further describes what she believes is the correct definition of a woman and a good feminist. Atwood talks of Steven Galloway and the treatment he was accorded by his employer, the University of British Columbia, which resulted in a barrage of public attack. Steven’s story resulted in the identification of the flawed process at UBC and the formation of the UBC Accountable letter. She discusses the UBC Accountable letter at length and concludes that it is an indication of the failure of the University of British Columbia and its blemished process. Atwood advocates for the abolition of “guilty because accused” practices. She urges all feminists to stop fighting among themselves and focus their energies on what is essential.
