Relying on Internet searches for a literature review can cost the quality and adequacy of the scholar’s work. It is important to consider the fact that there are no standards to looking for information on the Internet. A lot of the sources on the various sites do not undergo a review process. Any individual can decide to publish or upload material on the web without having an editor to check the content. Additionally, the author may not be an expert on the topic. Therefore, the Internet resources could bring the question the reliability of the literature review regarding the quality of the sources used (Leedy & Ormrod, 2015). Hence, acquiring information from a book or other printed sources that are more likely to have undergone standard measures or peer review could make the research more valid.
Other than the question on the expertise of the authors on the Internet, the information on the sites is available for free. Thus, theft and misuse of the data could easily occur. Many individuals take someone else’s research resources and pas them off as their own. The researcher may end up using information and referencing the wrong author.
