The postwar period of between 1945 and 1968 constituted a district era in European history, it was a time that saw Europe divided into two parts, West and Eastern Europe. It was during this time that Europe had lost world hegemony and even retreated from the colonial possessions it previously boasted of. Europe had also retracted from two military alliances that were under the control of the Soviet Union and the US.
